All matches will be played under the Essex Walking Football League rules. These are based on the FA's original LOTG template and our competition rules have been adjusted to ensure that physical contact is not  made in order to win the ball or gain an advantage without taking the ball cleanly and thereby ensuring all game play is fair.

What is the difference between Law and Competition Rules?

Law allows for variances in certain aspects of the game (i.e. type of ball or length of match) that can be determined by a specific competition underneath their own set of rules in order to unify the format of matches within that particular competition. Very simply, laws should be applied consistently wherever the game is played whereas competition rules allow for some flexibility and local variance where appropriate to do so.

Club Guidance For Player Registrations

(A) A player is one who, being in all other respects eligible, is a bona fide member of a Club and is registered on the FA’s Whole Game System for the current season.

(B) For all matches, including cup competitions all registrations must have been received by the League by 12:00 noon on the day prior to the date of the match.

(C) The onus shall be on the Club to produce evidence of registration, if required and requested by the Registrations Secretary. Any failure to do so when requested will lead to the Club being fined and possible points deduction.

(D) It shall be a breach of Rule for a player to play for more than one club in the same Competition in the same season. NB: Each ‘EWFL’ Division is defined as a separate ‘Competition’.

(E) A Club shall keep a list of the players it registers and a record of the games in which they have played, and shall produce such records upon demand by the Registrations Secretary.

(F) If, upon a protest raised from a Club or otherwise as to the qualification of a player taking part in any EWFL Competition because of an alleged age discrepancy, the player concerned must produce the necessary birth certificate or other official documents, as appropriate.

"Age is just a number in this game."

"We all should find something we love and enjoy doing – walking football is an excellent recreational sport and joining a team in the Essex Walking Football League may provide that opportunity to re-live some of those childhood memories (but don't forget the walking!)"
